Australia Day honours for Club Melbourne AmbassadorsThe significant scientific and medical contributions of two Club Melbourne Ambassadors have been officially recognised on the Australia Day 2013 Honours List.

Professor Peter Hall received the Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his distinguished service to mathematical science in the field of statistics through international contributions to research, as an academic and mentor and through leadership of advisory and professional organisations.

Professor Stephen Davis MD FRCP Edin FRACP was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his valuable service to medicine in the field of neurology.

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre’s (MCEC) Chief Executive, Peter King said the Ambassador’s inclusion in the 2013 Australia Day Honours List is a fitting acknowledgement to their remarkable careers.

“I congratulate Professor Hall and Professor Davis on their amazing achievements. We are delighted that they, as leaders in their respective fields, have been recognised for their value to the Australian community. They are truly great Melburnians.”

Professor Peter Hall is an Australian Research Council Federation Fellow at the University of Melbourne the and past President of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.

Professor Davis is the inaugural Professor of Translational Neuroscience at the University of Melbourne. He is based at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) where he is the Director of Neurosciences and Continuing Care, Director of Neurology and Director of the Melbourne Brain Centre at the RMH.

The recipients are also members of the Club Melbourne Ambassador Program, a collaborative strategy supported by the MCEC, Melbourne Convention + Visitors Bureau and the State Government of Victoria. Ambassadors are influential Melburnians and leaders in their fields, who bring together other industry professionals to support Melbourne’s growth by helping secure and host international conventions and business events.

Professor Davis was inducted in 2005 as an inaugural Ambassador and was involved in securing the 13th Asian and Oceanian Congress of Neurology. The congress was held at MCEC in 2012 and Professor Davis was on the Congress Advisory Board. Professor Hall was inducted into the Club Melbourne Ambassador Program in 2011.
