KUCHING, 9 JANUARY 2013: The Anak Sarawak Appreciation Award (ASAA) has been a much celebrated annual event. It was initiated by the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) in 2007, and has since been a much lauded award night.

Taking on a new format in 2012, industry members, suppliers and the media were acknowledged for their extraordinary passion, leadership and commitment in building up the local business events industry. Among the categories that were introduced include: The Anak Sarawak Outstanding Achievement Award, The Best Venue of the Year, The Best Supplier of the Year, The Best Incentive Program of the Year, The Best Conference of the Year, MICE Sarawak Global Appreciation Award and Malaysia MICE Journalism Award (MMJA) – MICE in Sarawak.

The Bureau has decided to retain the new format, and to formally introduce the nomination process and eligibility of entry. At a recent trophy unveiling ceremony in Hilton Kuching; YB Dato Sri Dr. Muhd. Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah commented, “The new format of the awards will further enhance and encourage the business events industry in Sarawak to continuously develop and improve its brand and services.”

He adds, “Winners will get a chance to position and promote their brand competitively, gain international recognition and acknowledgement from their industry peers. Furthermore, the media exposure and publicity from these awards will help propel their organization further.”

The trophy is specially designed by SCB to showcase Sarawak’s history of warriors. The modern design shows a strong tie to SCB’s tagline of ‘Where Business and Adventure Meet’.

Moreover, with the inclusion of MMJA in the ASAA program, in particular the MICE in Sarawak Category will a broader awareness on business events; it offers a prize of a convention package worth RM 10,000 and RM 2,000 in cash. The MMJA rewards journalists for their work in creating awareness on business events through compelling articles and news features. Winners have gone on to attend the ‘Excellence in Journalism Conference’ in USA, and CABSAT – Middle East International Cable, Satellite, Broadcast & Telecommunications Exhibition in Dubai.

The MICE in Malaysia Category will now be included in the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau’s (MyCEB) Business Events Awards 2013. Further information on this event will be provided on our website.

Mr Mike Cannon, Managing Director of SCB comments, “We encourage industry members, suppliers, local hosts and the media to take part and submit your nominations and entries for this award. We hope that you will take this opportunity to have a hand in developing the local business events industry.”
