trivagoFebruary tHPI: Hotel Prices increase by up to 38% following last month’s decrease
Last month saw hotel prices decrease to their cheapest since December 2010. This month, hotel prices have increased by up to 38%. One night in February 2013 will cost an average of £86, according to the trivago Hotel Price Index (tHPI) based on the 50 most popular European cities on www.trivago.co.uk

EU Hotel Prices
Hotel prices in Europe have increased by an average of 6 per cent in comparison to last month. One night in February will cost an average of £86, in comparison to £82 in January. One night in February 2012, however, cost an average of £91. Although hotel prices have increased in comparison to last month, they have decreased by an average of 5 per cent in comparison to this time last year.

The most significant increases in comparison to January can be found in the Carnival cities of Venice (up 38 per cent to an average of £132 per night) and Valencia (up 19 per cent to £63 per night), where celebrations started as early as 2nd February and continued until Shrove Tuesday (12th February).

Hotel prices in Berlin have increased by 12 per cent to an average of £77 per night, to coincide with the Berlin International Film Festival (7th to 17th February).

Other significant increases can be found in Barcelona (up 37 per cent to an average of £103 per night), Stockholm (up 18 per cent to £139 per night), Dublin (up 17 per cent to £81 per night) and Brussels (up 15 per cent to £98 per night). It is possible hotels in these destinations have increased their prices due to Valentine ’s Day, with couples taking advantage of weekend breaks from 15th to 17th February.

Alternatively, these destinations may have proved popular for February half term breaks, causing an increase in hotel prices.
Those looking for a cheap Valentine’s or February half term getaway may want to consider Riga (down 26 per cent in comparison to January to an average of £56 per night), Prague (down 21 per cent to £61 per night) or Florence (down 13 per cent to £82 per night).
