Former German Federal Minister for the Environment Klaus Töpfer has been announced as keynote speaker at this year’s greenmeetings and events conference, which is taking place from 26 to 27 February 2013 at the darmstadtium convention centre in Darmstadt.
Töpfer, who has received many awards for his political commitment, will use his keynote address to provide information about sustainable business strategies in the event sector.
Frankfurt am Main, 4 February 2013. Prof. Klaus Töpfer, an expert in environmental policy, will use his address to highlight the opportunities for sustainable business strategies in the event sector. He holds a doctorate in economics and is considered one of the leading speakers on climate change, renewable energies and environmental protection, with many years of experience in environmental politics. His achievements include a period of several years as Federal Minister for the Environment and Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme in Nairobi. Prof. Töpfer was presented with the German Sustainability Award in 2008.
The greenmeetings and events conference, organized by the German Convention Bureau (GCB) and the European Association of Event Centres (EVVC) is taking place in 2013 for the second time after its successful launch in 2011. In presentations, discussion forums and countless case studies, speakers will offer specific and practical solutions for running sustainable events – from environmentally friendly travel to and from the venue to reducing the quantity of printed information materials and socially responsible management of human resources.
Other keynote speakers at the 2013 conference include Petra Hedorfer, Chairman of the Board of the German National Tourist Board (GNTB), Dr. Fritz Brickwedde, General Secretary of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt DBU (the German Federal Environmental Foundation), and Prof. Uwe Schneidewind, President of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy. In addition, Bernhard Fischer-Appelt, Chairman of prominent German public relations agency Fischer-Appelt AG, will present best practices for sustainable event management in his keynote. The subsequent specialist forum discussions will emphasis address processes, energy and well-being in “green management”.
Another highlight of the conference, which is taking place under the patronage of the current German Federal Minister for the Environment, Peter Altmaier, will be the first ever presentation of the “Meeting Experts Green Award” for outstanding ideas and concepts in sustainable management.
