Hotels.com Nominates The Season’s Best Destination-Centric Movies

DALLAS – February 19, 2013 –Hollywood is preparing for the biggest awards show of the season this week and the experts at Hotels.com® are giving Americans some travel inspiration by highlighting a few of the great destinations showcased in 2012’s top award-nominated films.

“We are finding that travelers are using what inspires them to book a trip and movies can provide great inspiration for planning a vacation,” said Taylor L. Cole, APR, travel expert for Hotels.com. “For example, we found that the release of Skyfall in October 2012 coincided with an increase in searches by U.S. travelers for its filming locations of Istanbul and Shanghai – by 114 percent and 59 percent, respectively – during the month of its release compared to the same period in 2011. The top nominated films of 2012 showcase some of the world’s most historic and culturally-rich cities. Fans of these films may find that their perfect place is on the big screen right in front of them.”

Philadelphia

Filmed in the Philadelphia suburb of Upper Darby, Silver Linings Playbook has inspired Visit Philly to create a trip itinerary that lets travelers discover many of the spots featured in Bradley Cooper’s native hometown. Travelers can enjoy live opera or ballet performances at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, or head to the Ballroom at Ben, where Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper competed in their dance competition. Visitors can also stop in for a buffet lunch at the ballroom’s Palace at the Ben, which serves spicy Northern Indian cuisine. Within walking distance of the Palace at the Ben is the Le Meridien Philadelphia, which has a 4.5 guest review rating and is currently part of a special deal on Hotels.com.

“The City of Light” is perennially a top travel destination for Americans, but Les Miserables may provide travelers with added inspiration to visit. The abundance of national landmarks and tourist attractions that Washington, D.C. offers makes it a great travel destination any time of the year, but the release of Lincoln may inspire travelers to revel in the region’s Civil War history.
