Wellcome Collection‘Souzou: Outsider Art from Japan’ draws together one of the largest collections of Japanese art to be displayed in the UK.

Launching on Thursday 28th March 2013, ‘Souzou: Outsider Art from Japan’ follows on from Wellcome Collection’s noted winter exhibit, ‘Death: a self-portrait’.

‘Outsider Art from Japan’ will be in situ until 30th June 2013 and will showcase more than 300 works from 46 artists. The show has been curated in association with Het Dolhuys, the Museum of Psychiatry in Haarlem (the Netherlands) and the Social Welfare Organisation Aiseikai (Tokyo).

The exhibition reflects the growing popularity of and acclaim for Outsider Art – often defined as works made by self-taught artists perceived to be at the margins of society- while questioning assumptions about the category itself.

Situated in central London, Wellcome Collection is recognised for hosting high profile award ceremonies, charity fundraisers and conferences from both the corporate and association markets.   The venue’s Medicine Now Gallery can be transformed into a unique setting for a drinks reception or dressed for a stunning dinner or awards ceremony.
