UniSpace Sunderland this month celebrates its first anniversary since launching to the national and international MICE market at Confex 2012 with the announcement of a 20% increase in revenue and a 40% stake of the overall business tourism market in the Sunderland area.
Since March 2012, UniSpace has won business from association and corporate sectors, as well as hosting high profile events such as the North East Press Awards and the televised Pre Election Special Debate. UniSpace Sunderland has focused on events that support the University’s core proposition, including pharmaceutical and life sciences business such as the British Pharmaceutical Students’ Association annual conference, the Pharmaceutical Networking Event for the North East and most recently the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee.
In 2012 year on year business from the pharmaceutical sector for UniSpace Sunderland was up 70%, with a 30% rise in residential events at the venue. A new plenary space was developed in the Sciences Complex in response to increased demand.
Commercial Services Manager Sharon Olver commented: “The last twelve months have been both busy and exciting for the team and I and we are delighted that we can report a substantial increase in business. We have worked hard to establish UniSpace as a trusted brand in a relatively short period of time, focusing on high quality customer service and unique incentives designed to add value to client events.
“We aim to build on this excellent foundation in the next twelve months by continually developing the package that we can offer conference and event organisers. We have a healthy pipeline of bookings confirmed already and are looking forward to hosting some amazing events in 2013.”
