Last year, Vancouver was named one of six Canadian cities that will host the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup – and now, FIFA has confirmed Vancouver as the location of the series’ key gold medal game in addition to eight other matches leading up to the final.
The world’s largest single sporting event for women is set to take place at BC Place Stadium – home of the Vancouver Whitecaps and BC Lions – which received a $563-million upgrade in 2011 that resulted in a retractable roof (the largest of its kind in the world); FIFA-certified, two-star turf; and the second-largest video board in North America.
Twenty-four national teams will vie for gold in the 2015 World Cup, with millions of viewers expected to tune in to the final match.
