Figures released Monday 13th May, by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) have revealed that Edinburgh has once again strengthened its position as one of the world’s most successful conference destinations.
Scotland’s Capital outperformed other leading international destinations including Shanghai, Geneva and Toronto to take 33rd position in the world rankings league – one of only two UK cities to be featured in the top 50, the other being London at number 6. The top three places went to Vienna, Paris and Berlin, respectively.
Glasgow (68th) and Manchester (78th) were the only other two UK cities to appear in the top 100 of the annual report, which analyses meeting trends across six continents and more than 90 countries.
During 2012, Edinburgh hosted 67 internationally classified events recognised by ICCA criteria, fifteen more events than in 2011.
Conferences attracting over 55,000 delegates and worth more than £84.4million of economic benefit to the local economy have been won for the city in the twelve month period from April last year – an increase of £10million compared with 2011-12.
