Tall Ships Races 2013This summer, the world’s largest joint sailing and yacht regatta “Tall Ship Races 2013” will dock in Riga from July 24 to 28.

Organized by “Sail Training International”, Riga has been included on the “Tall Ship Races 2013” route – Arhus (Denmark) – Helsinki (Finland) – Riga – Szczecin (Poland).

Every summer, the “Tall Ship Races” regatta usually features 80 to 100 sailing ships from all over the world. It is likely approximately 100 sailing ships could dock at the Latvian capital, with 5,000 sailors, young and old, visiting Riga. For four days, Riga residents and guests will have the opportunity to board the ships, talk to crewmembers, and view the magnificent “Parade of Sail”.

The largest number of sailing ships participating in the regatta will arrive from Great Britain, Poland, Russia, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands. The furthest sailing ship will be the “Cisne Branco” from Brazil, which will be participating in the regatta in the Baltic Sea for the first time.

The last time the regatta passed through Riga was in 2003, when 80 ships and yachts from 18 countries visited the Latvian capital.
