EIBTM (www.eibtm.com), the global event for the meetings and events industry, has partnered with Pacific World (www.pacificworld.com), the global DMC, Event Management and PCO Organisation, in a bid to raise €15,000 for Casal dels Infants (www.casaldelsinfants.org), a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of children, young people and families at risk of social exclusion in Barcelona.

The project, based on the notion that if each of the 15,000 meetings industry professionals expected to attend the EIBTM (19-21 November) donates at least €1 each, the EIBTM community will raise enough funds to secure scholarships for 20 young adults within the Meetings and Hospitality Industries in Barcelona.

Graeme Barnett, Reed Travel Exhibitions, EIBTM Senior Event Director commented, “Our events are designed to bring people from across the globe to meet, connect and do business and as a result we are privileged to interact with many communities in each of our host cities and destinations. We recognise we have a responsibility to give something back to those communities, particularly those that are faced with hardship. The project aims to raise money, that will genuinely make a difference to the lives of 20 young people, providing them with an opportunity to gain the skills, knowledge and experience they need to work successfully in the meetings or hospitality industries – to give them a start, the support and encouragement they need. Working with our DMC partner Pacific World, we see this as a chance to give 20 young people the opportunity that will literally change their lives.”

All attendees to EIBTM are invited to donate at least €1 each, which will contribute towards the overall target of €15,000. Attendees can do this prior to the show by donating online via www.teaming.net/solidaryeibtm, or donating via the Casal’s webpage www.casaldelsinfants.org/CAST/principal.asp# (Please ensure you enter ‘EIBTM 2013’ as donation reference)

Alternatively, there will be a number of collection points available at EIBTM and at the various networking events during the event.

Mónica Sala, Pacific World, Country Manager Spain & Portugal commented,

“As a global DMC and congress organiser, Pacific World is committed to the sustainable and social development of the destinations where we operate. As a result we have created a programme called Opening Eyes, which is dedicated to giving something back to the communities in each of the destinations we work with. Through this partnership with EIBTM, we aim to raise these funds to help as many young people as possible and to give them a future and an opportunity to become part of our meetings and hospitality industry.”
