Prague, 26 March 2014: Every three years, the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) stages an international gathering of midwives. The Confederation thus gives not only them, but all those with a deep interest in midwifery, an exciting opportunity to exchange knowledge, share experience and socialize with each other.
The 30th ICM Congress is being held in Prague, Czech Republic from the 1st to 5th of June 2014. With a 3,000 midwives having registered already, the Congress might break all previous attendance records. In addition, the delegates are coming from no less than 95 countries, including Nigeria, Cambodia and Malawi. Nevertheless, the most represented countries will be Australia and the United Kingdom.
The Congress has established itself as a leading forum in the area of midwifery, the aim of which is to achieve progress in the care of pregnant women, mothers and their newborns. The theme of the ICM Prague 2014 “Midwives Improving Women’s Health Globally” reflects the 5th Millennium Development Goal, which is the improvement of maternal health.
During the four days, a selection of most distinguished figures in the field of midwifery will contribute to the scientific programme, thus providing all the delegates with a unique opportunity to attend more than 400 oral presentations, plenty of engaging workshops and high-quality symposia.
Midwives trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records
On Saturday the 31st of May at 2 pm, all the midwives will gather in Central Prague in an effort to set a world record of midwives singing together and get into the Guinness Book of World Records. “The Voices of Midwives” will be streamed live on the ICM Prague 2014 website www.midwives2014.com so that midwives all around the world can join in.
“It is my belief that Prague has been elected the host city of this year’s ICM Congress as the International Confederation of Midwives realizes that changes in midwifery and childcare are inevitable here, in the Czech Republic. We are so underestimating primary care capacity in our healthcare system. Therefore, we should take advantage of the unique opportunity the Congress gives us,” says Natálie Sedlická, midwife and member of the Local Organizing Committee.
The Confederation entrusted the organization of the Conference to C-IN, the leading company specialized in event, congress and association management in Europe. The C-IN team has acquired much experience in conference management and organized over 600 projects for many important institutions, organizations and academic sectors throughout Europe.
C-IN provided the ICM with complete congress management services, such as scientific programme management, complete conference logistics including delegate registration and accommodation, on-site communication with suppliers, website service and visa management.
