The World Air Traffic Congress has entrusted IFEMA with its location for the next three years, after reaching an agreement to host the major meeting of the aeronautics industry on its premises
Madrid, 5 March 2014.- The chairman and CEO of World Air Traffic Management, Inc, Peter F. Dumont, and the executive chairman of IFEMA, Luis Eduardo Cortés, have signed an agreement today which confirms Madrid as the host of the World ATM Congress, which will be held on IFEMA premises, over consecutive years until its 2017 edition.
This agreement represents an important support to Spain and specifically to Madrid, on the part of the worldwide aeronautical industry, which has entrusted IFEMA to hold their next three editions of this meeting, organised by CANSO, Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation, in collaboration with ATCA, Air Traffic Control Association, the two international organisations that bring together both service providers and industry.
This decision confirms the growing position of Madrid as the 4th city for congresses worldwide and represents a boost to the revitalization of the tourist business generated by the city, with a significant impact on the hotel industry. The congress hosts over 9,000 professionals from around the world.
Yesterday the Spanish Minister for Development, Ana Pastor, opened the new edition of the World ATM Congress, which will continue until 6th March in the Feria de Madrid.
The Congress combines a large scale exhibition with a wide programme of conferences and meetings. In this edition, 164 companies from the aeronautical sector and a high representation of Air navigation providers will be participating in an exhibition space of over 19,000 m2, where business and industry display the latest technology in air traffic control. Parallel to the exhibition, specialists, managers and providers have gathered at IFEMA’s North Convention Centre to discuss future challenges and courses of action against operational challenges such as natural disasters, new technologies, the Solar impulse project, effective regulation, business collaboration and the future of ATM, air traffic management.
Under the title “Developing the Future”, the World Conference of the ATM Congress offers a unique platform to discuss the future of air traffic management. Over three days, the most important leaders in aviation in the world share ideas, views and experiences on future problems and challenges currently facing the aviation industry, which just in Spain makes nearly 7,000 million, representing 0.7 of the GDP.
This conference is sponsored by CANSO and ATCA, the former is the Civil Organisation of Air Navigation Services, of which Aena is a founding member and which brings together providers of air traffic control around the world. While, ATCA is an association that brings together the entire U.S. air traffic industry sector.
