The British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) this week celebrated its 30th anniversary during a conference at ACC Liverpool.
The association held its main gathering for 2,000 delegates over three days. It was BSR’s second visit to ACC Liverpool, home to BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena, having been the first conference to be held at the venue when it opened in 2008 and the first contract to be signed.
Rheumatology 2014 heralded 30 years since BSR was established to support professionals to deliver care for people suffering from arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions.
To mark the occasion, ACC Liverpool staff presented a cake and champagne to BSR’s CEO Laura Guest.
The conference provides an opportunity for health professionals to identify and share best practice; attend lectures delivered by rheumatology world experts; network with colleagues and patients and learn about new technologies and advancements.
This year’s programme included an anniversary lecture delivered by the first president, Professor George Nuki, reflecting on the past three decades, and newly elected president Professor Simon Bowman looking to the society’s future.
A 30th anniversary dinner was held at Circo Bar and Restaurant at Albert Dock, adjacent to ACC Liverpool, with entertainment provided by TV doctor Dr Phil Hammond.
Ms Guest said: “2008 was an exciting conference for us as we were the first association to hold our event at ACC Liverpool. It therefore seemed fitting to return to the venue for our 30th anniversary this year.
“It was a lovely surprise to be presented with a gift by ACC Liverpool who once again provided the utmost support, resulting in positive delegate feedback.”
