The Organisation “European Capital of Culture – Pafos2017″ continues its preparations with great excitement and commitment in view of the big event.
Pafos can deservedly respond to this ambitious project and become the most hospitable capital of Europe. It suggests making the best of its open-air sites by turning them into an Open-Air Factory of Culture, since it is aware of the challenge that it will face. If it takes advantage of its archeological sites, its squares, its streets, its beaches, its plays and its other artistic events, it can bring the cultural activities of the city closer to its citizens.

Marios Joannou Elia, the Artistic Director, continues contacts with artists and cultural operators in Cyprus and abroad in order to make arrangements and complete preparations with regard to the activities and events that will be included in the artistic programme.

Pafos 2017 has already published in its website www.pafos2017.eu an open call, addressed to all interested artists (individuals or groups), for the submission of new proposals for participation in the artistic programme that will be taking place from September 2014 to 31 December 2017.

Particular attention is being given to the communication and promotion of the European Capital of Culture 2017 – with a number of activities and initiatives being undertaken specifically in order to inform citizens about the activities of the Organisation – as well as to the promotion of Pafos2017 in Cyprus and abroad and the establishment of a climate of participation and volunteering.

In this regard, an open competition, which will take the form of an artistic event, has already been announced for the designing of banners and posters, which will be placed in the central areas of our city as well as in tourist accommodation establishments.

Pafos due to its geographical position in the crossroad of Eastern Mediterranean and due to its modern multicultural reality has become the first European Capital of Culture which will link the East and the West, bridge people and cultures and be a unique place of cultural collaboration and peaceful coexistence.
