IFEMA’s burgeoning popularity as a venue for international conventions and congresses is a key factor behind Madrid’s rise to second place in the ICCA’s global city ranking, with an ever increasing number of major international events choosing to take advantage of IFEMA’s facilities and infrastructure.
More specifically, IFEMA will host nine major global and European congresses this year that will be attended by over 50,000 professionals from around the world and generate 150,000 hotel stays.
Of these, five are in the medical science field, which, coupled with another two major national congresses also being staged this year, make IFEMA one of the leading global venues for specialist medical events. Following the well-attended Spanish Association for High Blood Pressure and Spanish League Against Hypertension Congress in March, IFEMA will host the 24th Conference of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA – from 14 to 16 May); the 82nd Congress of the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS – from 31 May to 3 June), and the 16th World Congress of Psychiatry (WPA – from 14 to 18 September). In addition, IFEMA will also be the venue for the European Society for Medical Oncology 2014 Congress (ESMO – from 26 to 30 September), which will bring together 16,000 participants, and the Annual World Congress of the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO- from 5 to 8 October).
In the aviation sector, IFEMA will be hosting Aviation Week MRO Europe from 7 to 9 October, having already served as the setting for the prestigious ATM World Conference in March. In addition, the 32nd Annual International No-Dig Conference and Exhibition, hosted by the Iberian Society for Trenchless Technology, will bring together 5,000 professionals from 13 to 15 October in Madrid. This rounds off the convention calendar for 2014, which also included the World Customs Organization’s 2nd Global Conference, an event that ran from 28 to 30 April.
