LONDON, May 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — In the past months, Nobu Hospitality has announced an aggressive expansion plan with new hotel properties in development in the most exciting global markets; ranging from Eden Roc Miami to City of Dreams Manila to Chicago and Riyadh amongst others. Today, Nobu Hospitality announced its first European hotel, the Nobu Hotel Shoreditch in London.
The Nobu Hotel Shoreditch London, which is currently under construction and projected to open in Q1 2016, is under a long-term management agreement between Nobu Hospitality and the Willow Corp Sarl, the owner of the hotel. It is being developed by Meir Abutbul, the London based boutique hotel developer.
Nobu Hospitality will open the 156 room hotel at 10-50 Willow Street in the Shoreditch area of London with food and beverage menus to be developed by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa specifically and uniquely for the hotel. As with all Nobu properties, the design will reflect both the city of origin, as well as Nobu Hospitality’s signature east-meets-west philosophy. The overall interior design is a creative collaboration between Ben Adams Architects and Studio PCH. Additionally, the hotel will feature banqueting and meeting rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center and modern amenities combined with superior service.
“The Nobu Hotel Shoreditch in London is our first European hotel joining our growing portfolio collection of hotels covering select locations in the Americas, Middle East and Asia,” explains Trevor Horwell, chief executive officer of Nobu Hospitality. “Our proven business algorithm for hotel owners is our tactical and competitive advantage, focusing our effort on maximizing return per square foot. We are as such continuing to expand our global hotel footprint with a robust development pipeline working with the best strategic partners.”
“The Nobu Hotel Shoreditch is a critical and valuable chapter in the ongoing evolutionary tale of London. For an area conceived through, and shaped by, contemporary culture and creativity, our architectural design is the obvious gesture,” said Meir Abutbul. “The demonstration of beauty, drama and instinctive elegance has found a perfect home with the Nobu Hotel Shoreditch.”
Since opening their first hotel in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace, Nobu Hospitality has strived to establish a hotel offering which is centered on delivering a fun-luxury experience with unique Nobu DNA touch points for the guests. “We have worked hard to create meaningful luxury experiences,” said Struan McKenzie, chief operating officer Nobu Hospitality. “After just one year, we are thrilled with the reception and honors we are receiving, including from CNN Travel, The Robb Report and Luxury Travel Advisor. These awards and recognition are reinforcing our commitment to our guests and hotel owners as we continue our global portfolio growth.”
The architectural design draws on the vibrant cultural and industrial context. The hotel’s five stories are fractured into angular, fair-faced concrete balconies which combined with cantilevered corten steel beams, form a seemingly frayed edge to the northern facade. Six protruding slab edges penetrate the glazing and accentuate the horizontality of the volume. Utilizing innovative printed, layered glass, the highly reflective facade balances privacy and exposure, and interacts with its surroundings through the interplay of color, reflection and light. An intimate landscaped garden at the site’s eastern edge is articulated into terraces, seating and planting, and provides natural light and access to the generous lower triple height restaurant and bar space.
