Greece and Turkey are the fastest growing destinations in terms of roomnight bookings
Palma de Mallorca, 15th May 2014.- Today, Hotelbeds, the No. 1 Global B2B bedbank, has published its list of Top 5 European destinations with the highest number of bookings for summer 2014, with four Mediterranean countries (Spain, Greece, Turkey and Italy), together with Portugal, making the Top 5.
For this summer (from May to September), Spain is the most important destination in Europe in terms of roomnight bookings, with a 23% increase in reservations for this season, followed by Greece and Turkey, which are the fastest growing destinations in Europe.
UK travellers are the main source market for the Top 5 destinations, having increased their bookings in all of the five most visited countries for this summer. In Spain, the second source market after the UK is the domestic market. Germany is the third strongest source market for Spain as a destination.
Along with the British, the French travellers are the only ones, among the main source markets, travelling to all of the five most visited countries in Europe, with booking increases registered in all of them. Germany, another of the main source markets, is one of the markets that sends most travellers to Spain, Greece, Turkey and Italy.
Carlos Muñoz, Managing Director, Hotelbeds comments: “Hotelbeds’ forecast bookings for the summer season show the fortress of the Mediterranean region as the main tourist focus in Europe. In addition to the traditional destinations, such as Spain and Italy, the data show the growing importance of countries such as Turkey, which has carried out a clear effort to develop high-quality infrastructures for the tourism sector and is now the third most visited country in Europe”.
Hotelbeds will be hosting its 2nd MarketHub Europe in Ibiza from the 3rd to the 6th of June, 2014. This annual event for customers and suppliers will welcome more than 200 experts from the main sectors of the European travel industry, who will discuss the latest industry trends during the 3 day interactive event with the theme of “Forward Thinking”.
