During the Zurich Festival, held from June 13–July 13, the Opera House, Schauspielhaus municipal theater, Tonhalle concert hall and Kunsthaus Zurich will transform Zurich into a buzzing cultural center.
The varied program encompasses, among other things, art exhibitions, readings, theater productions and concerts. Other organizations and institutions complement the range of cultural activities on offer with their ideas and own productions. This year, the overall program is dedicated to the theme of “Prometheus – Unleashing Powers” and invites audiences to rediscover the myth of the figure who brought both fire and culture to mankind.
A particular highlight is the performance of Verdi’s “Rigoletto”, which – under the slogan of “Opera for All” – will be transmitted live from the Zurich Opera House onto a giant outdoor screen on the Sechseläutenplatz – a premiere for Zurich. The Zurich Opera House enjoys world acclaim, and in 2014 was named “Opera Company of the Year” at the International Opera Awards in London.
