International Festival for Business (IFB) Kicks Off Summer of Events

Liverpool is preparing for a monumental summer of events, including the International Festival for Business, with a major professional, cultural and leisure programme which promises to be the biggest and best since Capital of Culture in 2008.

Global events include the International Festival for Business (IFB) which will bring tens of thousands of visitors to Liverpool over 50 days in June and July. The festival, the biggest event of its kind in the UK for more than half a century, will be a global showcase for great British industry and will champion UK businesses to new markets, new products and new partners.

More than 250 IFB-focused events will take place all over the city including several at ACC Liverpool such as ACCELERATE 2014, Undersea Defence Technology, International Sport Business Conference and Made in the UK.

The Business Visits & Events Partnership (BVEP) will be hosting its Partner meeting and has created a comprehensive programme of site visits and briefings around its programme. Among the industry associations currently planning events during IFB are the BVEP, ABPCO, ICCA, HBAA, AEV/ESSA and EVCOM.

A series of meetings will take place at ACC Liverpool on July 1 and a networking reception will be hosted at the Liver Building, sponsored by the Concerto Group, to enable the representatives of key industry groups to meet together. As Bob Prattey, chief executive of ACC Liverpool, says: “IFB is bringing in more opportunities such as UDT, which is a new defence sector for us to explore, and the return of Accelerate which will see thousands of entrepreneurs gathering in our venue.

“It will be an exciting period for visitors to our venue and to the city and we expect there to be a real buzz around the region.”

The cultural programme in June and July is expected to draw huge crowds and provide a boost to tourism. Highlights include the Biennial, the return of the Royal de Luxe giants, a huge street theatre event which attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors when it last came to the city in 2012, and the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool Golf Club.
