For the first time ever, the world-famous international circus brings its Big Top to Europe’s leading theme park
Over recent years, PortAventura has undertaken a strategy of continued expansion with the aim of making it a major holiday destination renowned throughout Europe. To achieve this, it has opted for a strategy of internationalisation and has taken on new projects every year, investing around €125 million since 2010.
This development plan will continue in the coming years with “Ferrari Land”: PortAventura has reached a licensing agreement with Ferrari to create “Ferrari Land”, a new theme park dedicated to the Italian brand and featuring the first ever Ferrari hotel. PortAventura also boasts two major developments for this season: the opening of a spectacular new attraction, “Angkor: Adventure in the Lost Kingdom” and the incorporation of Cirque du Soleil’s show KOOZA as one of this summer’s main attractions, which premiered on 14th July at PortAventura.
This agreement marks the collaboration of two major companies in the global leisure and tourism sector, as PortAventura becomes the first European resort to host a Cirque du Soleil show. For PortAventura, which attracts nearly 4 million visitors, this project represents another step forward in its strategy of increasing its international appeal every year to position the resort as Europe’s leading family entertainment destination. In particular, the agreement opens the doors for PortAventura to draw in more foreign tourists, who currently make up 50% of its visitors.
Belén Madrid, MICE Director of PortAventura Business & Events and PortAventura Convention Centre also explained:
“It is an honour for us to be able to welcome Cirque du Soleil as the ideal complement to the corporate events held at PortAventura Convention Centre. This collaboration is definitely a step forward in the consolidation of PortAventura as one of Europe’s leading resorts, within an unbeatable Mediterranean environment”.
