5 years of preparation, 80 employed staff, record of 2500 attendees – statistics from 90th Congress of the European Orthodontic Society which has been held between 18th and 22nd of June 2014.
For the first time, in 100 year history of the Society, the 90th EOS Congress 2014 was held in Poland, being the third host country in Eastern Europe after Czech Republic and Slovenia. The Congress was attended by almost 2500 participants and it was breaking the records of attendance.
The long tradition of annual congresses and gathering orthodontists in different European countries is to present the results of their scientific work. The scientific programme of the 90th Congress has addressed research and clinical topics related to treatment trends and technologies, controversies, and new approaches in orthodontic management. The social programme presented the culture of Poland and of the Polish people as well as many tourist attractions in Warsaw. It was a perfect place to enjoy Polish history and culture and preserve and expand social contacts.
The 90th Congress was held by the European Orthodontic Society and its President dr Ewa Czochrowska. The Palace of Culture and Science (PKiN) has been chosen as the congress venue due to impressive architecture and exceptional size making it possible to organize 11 scientific sessions, 581 poster presentations as well as commercial exhibition including 81 exhibitors on dedicated floor space of 4.100 m²
The lecture of Polish President Lech Walesa and concert of Anna Maria Jopek added splendour to the Opening Ceremony that was held in the Congress Hall. President’s Reception in Kubicki Arcades gathered 2000 people. At the end of the evening all participants could admire incredible fireworks. There were also Postgraduate Party organized at the Bank Club for 800 people, Gala Dinner at the Main Hall of Technical University for 350 people, Chopin concert in the Protestant-Augsburg Church, and a golf tournament. Besides all guests could get to know Poland better by participating in following trips: sightseeing of Warsaw, , tour to Krakow including Auschwitz and the Wieliczka Salt Mine visit. The annual big surprise was Silver Mill Competition – kind of city game organized in the Łazienki Królewskie Park.
