On Monday, August 18, 2014, it was announced that Wonderful Copenhagen has won the 4th Women Deliver Global Conference. This internationally renowned event will gather 5,000 opinion leaders, experts and media to the largest conference in the world for women’s rights and health. There was strong competition to host the conference from Vancouver, Vienna, Barcelona and Berlin among other cities.
“We are beyond excited that Women Deliver 2016 will be held in Copenhagen. The Danish government has played a key role in promoting the rights and health of young girls and women, and we expect that this will ensure that the conference will help push these topics to the top of the global development agenda and gather advocates and opinion leaders from all over the world,” commented Women Deliver president, Jill Sheffield
Meanwhile, Copenhagen beat Prague for the honour of hosting the 27th Congress of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) 2017. Denmark is known as a frontrunner within blood transfusions, and the medical field in general, and the ISBT congress is expected to attract 2,500 doctors, scientists and exhibitors to the capital over the course of four days.
What makes Copenhagen an attractive host?
Last year, Copenhagen won a record 57 international conventions and 272 corporate events. Copenhagen has an extensive selection of hotel and congress facilities. In recent years, the number of hotel rooms has quadrupled and several new conference facilities have been constructed.
Copenhagen offers that extra something having made sustainable meetings management a key priority and by focusing on meetings design, recently embodied by the Danish Meetovation Concept. Both of these aspects have strengthened the city’s profile as an innovative and sustainable destination.
In 2014, Copenhagen is once again ranked as the World’s Most Liveable City, cementing its reputation as a clean and safe destination offering a high quality of life for Copenhageners and event attendees alike.

The Women Deliver 4th Global Conference will be staged at Bella Center in 2016. It will be the largest gathering on women’s health and rights in the last decade and the first major global conference on these issues following the launch of the post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
On securing the conference for Copenhagen, Danish Trade and Development Minister, Mogens Jensen, commented:
“Denmark is known as a strong advocate of women’s and girls’ rights to make decisions regarding their own bodies, and winning this conference to Copenhagen is a clear acknowledgment of Danish efforts”.
In 2013, the Women Deliver Global Conference, held in Kuala Lumpur, attracted 4,500 attendees from 149 different countries all working towards the common goals of improving the maternal, sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls.
