Copenhagen, 7 October — Two of business travel management’s top priorities — controversial legislation that could have a serious impact on the cost of travel, and international travel security —

are headlining the agenda for the Association of Corporate Travel Executives Global Business Travel Conference in Copenhagen, 19 October through 21 October 2014.

According to executive director Greeley Koch, ACTE is offering critical dialogue on new legislation by the European Union that could cap the interchange fee on corporate payment systems, and a ranking member of the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will provide background and insight on traveller security.

“Many experts believe that a proposal by the European Union to cap interchange fees on corporate payment systems could have the same momentous consequences as the airline ticketing/travel agency commission changes of years past,” said Koch. “This 45-minute presentation, conducted through the auspices of ENACT, is intended to make travel managers aware of how this proposed legislation will affect their company and programmes.”

The session, held on 20 October at 14:00, will define the fine points of the legislation, outline its ramifications, and suggest possible courses of action. ENACT is a network of five independent business travel associations, poised to generate data, statistics, or detailed feedback for governing bodies like the European Commission — as the need arises.

Vicki Reeder, Deputy Assistant Administrator, Office of Global Strategies for the US Transportation Security Administration will address the general assembly with a presentation titled, “An Insider’s View of Global Security & Traveler Safety.” To be held on 21 October, at 10:00, Reeder’s insight comes from representing a TSA division responsible for identifying and mitigating risks at nearly 300 airports from which US -bound airlines depart.

“ACTE is pleased to have a high-ranking member of the global security community headline the Copenhagen conference,” said Koch. “Our attendees will take away valuable information that will help keep their travelers safe and secure on the road.”

ACTE’s Global Travel Conference in Copenhagen represents the second opportunity this year for business travel managers who are members to attend a major travel event without the cost of registration. With the most competitive hotel rates for any event in Europe, ACTE’s inclusive event registration (as a membership benefit for corporate buyers) makes this one of the most affordable educational programs ever presented to business travel managers.
