TUI Hotels & Resorts has awarded the EcoResort quality label to 44 hotels and clubs for the forthcoming year.
The resorts certified for 2015 include hotels and club facilities of the Dorfhotel, Grecotel, Grupotel, Iberotel and Robinson brands. “We are delighted to see that our hoteliers attach the requisite importance to sustainability, despite numerous challenges in the tourism market environment.
As EcoResorts, they take a lead in environmental and health protection in the holiday hotel sector,” said Thomas Pietzka, Head of TUI’s Hotel Portfolio Management.
The EcoResort label, created by TUI Hotels & Resorts in 2005, is a seal of quality for sustainable development in holiday hotels and is audited by independent, accredited specialists.
It focuses on commitment to sustainable development by means of a convincing ecological performance that is always evident to the guests. It includes, for instance, using national products – preferably from local farming, cooperating with nature conservation organisations, using renewable energy sources, conserving natural resources, offering nature adventure excursions, ecological shuttles or plant trails operated by the hotels.
Background: In order to qualify for the award of the EcoResort quality seal, the TUI Hotels & Resorts hotel and club facilities must rank among the TUI Environmental Champion winners and have their environmental management systems certified in accordance with a recognised international or national environmental standard. Alongside their ecological performance, they also have to be involved in socio-cultural projects.
