Unsung heroes who have been recognised for their contribution to society joined together at Church House Conference Centre last week for a special reception to mark the inaugural British Citizen Awards (BCA).
The event at the Westminster venue followed a presentation ceremony at the House of Lords, at which 28 individuals were recognised for the positive impact they have had on society and presented with a Medal of Honour. Hosted by Baroness Cox and supported by the i newspaper medals were presented for several categories including for services to community, volunteering and charitable giving, business, industry, health, education and overseas achievement.
Following the presentation ceremony, as one of the award’s sponsors, Church House Conference Centre hosted 100 guests in the Harvey Goodwin Suite for a drinks reception.
Co-Founder of the awards, Mike Faulkner commented: “It was a very moving occasion as most receiving medals were almost hesitant to accept recognition for their enormous contributions to society. Almost every person receiving the Honour was humble and never expected recognition for their efforts. There are literally thousands of people across the UK making life better for others, and until now with no formal recognition open to them. This programme has been created to enable every individual across the country to nominate someone who they feel deserves to be recognised.”
Church House Conference Centre’s General Manager Robin Parker commented: “We were delighted to be involved in the event which celebrated some amazing people. At the reception it was really inspiring to hear many of the recipient’s talk about their experiences. The BCA is a great new initiative and deserves to go from strength to strength; I wish it every success for the future.”
