britishairways_747British Airways is gearing up for a bumper 2016 Easter getaway with around 2.4 million customers set to travel with the airline over the Easter break.

During the three-week period*, more than 75,000 families are expected to take advantage of the long weekend and school holidays to jet off with British Airways.

The single busiest day for travel is predicted to be Thursday March 24 with some 117,000 flying with the airline.

The top destination for long-haul travellers over Easter is New York, closely followed by Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Miami and Dubai

Most popular with travellers looking for a short-haul break is Paris, followed by Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Geneva and Glasgow.

Stephen Humphreys, British Airways’ head of global sales, said: “This Easter is a great opportunity to get away for some much-needed sun, either long-haul to the heat or to Europe as it warms up after the long winter.

“We’ve added 19 new routes since this time last year including Santorini, Olbia, Krakow and Kuala Lumpur so there have been even more destinations to choose from. And the holiday decisions for our customers will get even harder now that we’re launching a further 19 routes this year to the likes of Costa Rica, Peru, Palermo and Kalamata.”

Other new long-haul routes for 2016 include New York from Gatwick, San Jose in California and Iranian capital, Tehran from Heathrow.

New short-haul holiday hot-spots from Heathrow include Mahon in Menorca, Biarritz in France, Inverness in Scotland, Billund in Denmark and another Greek favourite Chania. Bergerac, Berlin and Hamburg also start from London City and for the first time the airline is also launching three new routes from Stansted to Ibiza, Faro, Malaga and Palma.

For all those families flying, the airline has a ‘feed kids first’ policy, dedicated children’s entertainment and Skyflyer activity packs to keep the children entertained during the flight.
