Maribor will host the next World Boxing Federation (WBF) in September 2016. More specifically it is Hotel Habakuk where the former and future boxing champions, boxing and sport administrators and other convention attendees will stay during the convention from 22nd to 25th September 2016.
The World Boxing Federation, established in 1988 in the USA, is today a non-profit sports organization properly registered in the state of Luxembourg and is presidented by an experienced boxing administrator, Howard Goldberg. In the past six years the WBF has sanctioned over 330 championship contests in 40 countries worldwide, regaining and actually exceeding its former status and became one of the most well-established sanctioning bodies in professional boxing today.
Mr Goldberg is delighted to have chosen Maribor for their world convention destination, explaining that the city was very cooperative and helpful in bringing the event to their region. He also emphasized that the hotel Habakuk, situated at the foothills of Pohorje mountain range, offers beside the remarkable nature scenery a variety of sports (cycling, horse riding, hiking, golf) and wellness fascilities (massages, pedicure, aroma therapy, sauna, whirlpools, thermal water, etc) what goes perfectly with the expectations of the boxing convention atendees. He also added that it is not about the glitter and glam in boxing, as the main objective of the WBF is sport and keeping good relationships and “this we want to celebrate with our champions, our staff and their families during the convention in this great place (Maribor) in Slovenia”.
Apart from meetings, seminars and other debates, the convention will be spiced up by the WBF Championship Boxing Night at Dvorana Tabor Hall Maribor on Staurday, 25th September and by the presence of two former world champinos, Slovenian boxer Dejan Zavec (Former two-weight World Champion) and british Robin Reid (Former three-time World Champion).
