Contestants to be weighed-up by ex-British middleweight champion Roy Gumbs at Fit Boys Gym in JLT – new training partner, new gym facilities – familiar format and guaranteed excitement

The highly successful official White Collar Fight Night series of events is back for its 16th edition and the promoters are looking for contestants to compete at the next gala evening which takes place at the Habtoor Grand Beach Resort & Spa in Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai on 11 November 2016.

A call for entries is being made and ‘Rocky’ wannabes are invited to a special ‘open day’ at Fit Boys Gym, the new training partner for the event, on Saturday July 30th at 2pm. The open day will give the complete low down on what it takes to be a contender and what they will have to go through before they step into the ring in front of 700 guests at Fight Night XVI.

According to White Collar Boxing promoter, Mark Povey of MJP Events, this year the training has something special to offer in the form of the event’s new gym partner and especially its new head trainer.

We looked at many facilities before deciding on Fit Boys Gym in JLT,” commented Povey, “but there were two really overwhelming reasons for choosing Fit Boys.

First it is the gym owner Milad Saadatifard. Milad, who actually fought at one of our very first White Collar events and has gone on to have many fights since then. He and his team are passionate about boxing. They really understand the whole white collar culture and what it takes to make it as a competitor.

Secondly, boxing legend Roy Gumbs will be working with Milad as White Collar’s head trainer, coach and mentor. We are really privileged to have a boxing pro like Roy leading the training. His experience and knowledge will be invaluable.”

Gumbs, a former British and Commonwealth Middleweight Champion, is already helping many of Dubai’s busy executives keep fit and sees White Collar as the ultimate challenge for anyone who has ever harbored dreams of getting in the ring.

I’ve been a guest at the last five Fight Nights, so I know what these guys go through. It’s great to be involved at the sharp end this time and having fought at the highest level, I am sure I can give the guys a bit extra in their training and ultimately make the event more exciting on the night.”

During the eight-weeks of training, contestants will be put through an intensive physical and technical training programme. They will be assessed under the watchful eye of professional trainers and boxing coaches, with competitor safety and welfare a priority, and ultimately they are matched up with an equal opponent for their moment of glory in the ring.
