From September 25th to 29th at the Fortezza da Basso.
10 simultaneous sessions, 4.000 square meters of exhibition, 5.500 room nights booked, 93 sponsors, 5.800 box lunches booked, 350 speakers and more than 4.000 participants attending: these are the fact sheets of the 2016 WUWHS Congress – World Union of Wound Healing Societies, that will be held from 25 to 29 September at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence.
The bid has been submitted in 2012 by the PCO International Congress Centre of Turin (CCI), with the support of the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau (FCVB), Tecnoconference-TC Group and Firenze Fiera, the company that manages the Congress Citadel of Florence. A collaboration that worked very well, giving important results which will allow Florence to host this high scientific value congress with an economic impact of more than 3 million Euros.
Many actors are involved in the organization of the event, from local institutions as well as many operators and suppliers. Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau provided the free rental of an important institutional venue such as Palazzo Medici Riccardi which will host the dinner of ambassadors coming from all over the world.
The Congress organizers also required the activation of the portal florencecongressbooking, created by FCVB, (www.florencecongressbooking.com) as a tool in support of the management of individual hotel reservations, which in total have produced over 1 million Euros revenue.
Germana Garrone, CEO of CCI: “We are very pleased with the results so far. We have recorded a steady increase of registrations and right now we are reaching 4.000 participants. We have taken care of every detail of the organization also thanks to the excellent collaboration with the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau, which has been a strategic partner both for its preferred relationships with local Institutions and for the selection of excellent suppliers. With regard to individual room reservation, also thanks to the portal Florence Congress Booking, we managed to sell more than 5.500 room nights. Now it’s time to start the Congress!”
A decisive role for the victory of the congress was the one of the Italian ambassador, Professor Marco Romanelli, University of Pisa, President of the WUWHS Congress 2016 and President-Elect of the WUWHS.
Also, thanks to the recent partnership with Oxfam Italia, FCVB helped ICC to get in touch with Oxfam staff in order to organize a marathon to raise funds that will be partially given in support of the Italian populations hit by the earthquake on August 24th. The organizer of the marathon is the association of SIRTES (International School of Tissue Repair).
