Busy first day of business and learning at IMEX America

imexusa16_showopeningxThousands of buyers arrived from across the globe ready to do business and to update their knowledge when the sixth IMEX America opened on Tuesday morning.

Between them they had booked thousands of appointments with the 3250 exhibiting companies taking part in the show while many spontaneous business meetings were also taking place.

At the end of the first morning exhibitors were reporting meeting buyers ready to discuss strong business prospects. Jeff Baryenbruch of Milwaukee said; ‘It’s been amazing. We’ve had back to back high quality group and individual appointments, several of them with interesting RFPs.’

Emora Franco of the Argentina National Institute of Tourism said ‘we’ve had a really good day. We’ve had a very positive response from buyers and many have been discussing serious business opportunities. We’re very pleased.’

Appointments

Buyer Tania Beladures from BCD Meetings & Events ‘had appointments to discuss contracts with possible partners from all over the world. It’s been really valuable to work on so many projects all in one place.’ Leonie Davies from Pulse Event Management in England ‘had a successful morning progressing existing business with current contacts and discussing specific new projects with potential suppliers.’

The day started with an inspiring MPI key note address by serial entrepreneur Jay Samit. Cynnamon Spain and Cristina Crowson from the Directed Energy Professional Society said; ‘What a motivating talk! Jay gave a great insight into how different generations are responding to changes in our world and how embracing change enables businesses to thrive.’

Many participants had been making the most of the 129 education sessions at the Media Café and Inspiration Hub, sponsored by Maritz Global Events. Tryna Cooper of Meetings & Events LLC took in 4 education sessions. ‘Today has been great. I’ve got some really good ideas, particularly about inspiring creativity and encouraging networking – exactly what I wanted.’

Yoga, yoghurt and meditation were available in the Be Well Lounge which is sponsored by Hilton to help everyone at the show look after their mind and body. Cari Weinberg of These Dusty Shoes, a group travel organizer, said: ‘This is a refreshing addition to the show. The pace in the hall is frenetic and exciting. This was a chance to clear my head and resharpen my focus. It was very effective.’

Summing up, Alejandro Cortes of the Costa Rica Tourism Board ‘had a very good time. It’s been busy all day, good appointments all on time. I’m very much looking forward to tomorrow.’
