World Class Events & Entertainment Precinct Revealed at Public Open Day
International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) opened its doors to the city today, inviting locals and visitors alike to explore the state of the art integrated convention, exhibition and entertainment precinct ahead of its hotly anticipated December launch.
Thousands of visitors have already taken up the invite to attend the Public Open Day and tour the iconic new venue.
NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Andrew Constance, formally welcomed the community on the day and said it was an exciting opportunity for Sydney to see inside the $1.5 billion project that is changing the face of the city.
“ICC Sydney sits at the heart of the AU$3.4 billion revitalisation of Darling Harbour, and today was the first time our community has been able to venture through the doors of this dynamic new precinct, which will deliver major cultural and economic benefits to our state.
“These world leading facilities will attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to our vibrant city, and contribute at least $5 billion to NSW’s economy over the next 25 years,” he said.
The integrated offering includes five star convention and exhibition centres, 8,000sqm of meeting room space, the largest purpose-built Grand Ballroom in the region, a 5,000sqm open air event deck, and three individual theatre spaces, including the 9,000 capacity ICC Sydney Theatre, which houses Australia’s biggest stage area.
Geoff Donaghy, CEO of ICC Sydney, said the venue will be activated year round with a calendar of high profile business and entertainment events, and become a hub of activity and innovation.
“As one of Asia-Pacific’s most technologically advanced venues, ICC Sydney is set to redefine the way business and entertainment events are delivered in Sydney, driving enduring gains including business relationships, knowledge transfer and industry investment.
“We already have more than 400 events locked in, including world leading exhibits like The Hunger Games: The Exhibition and performances from international superstars Keith Urban and PJ Harvey, with hundreds of others in the pipeline,” said Mr Donaghy.
Today’s Public Open Day is part of a three-month period of intensive testing, training and commissioning by the ICC Sydney team.
“The venue will employ at least 300 full time staff and a further 1,500 casual workers, as well as support local food and wine industries. The crucial testing period will ensure our exceptional team is prepared for every type of event and that the venue is fully functioning to its industry leading benchmark ahead of our official launch,” Mr Donaghy said.
ICC Sydney will be capable of holding multiple large conventions, shows and exhibitions simultaneously, all supported with world leading service, facilities and technology.
