The 4th International Symposium Ampelos 2017 focused on the “Mediterranean Vineyards and Climate Change” will be held in Santorini Island, at the Petros M. Nomikos Conference Center, 12-14 May 2017.
The scope of the symposium is to examine the impact of climate change, in the European and in the Mediterranean Vineyard, on the developmental physiology and ecophysiology of the grapevine, on the productivity and quality of wine and table grapevine varieties, on the adaptation of grapevine varieties and rootstocks and on the formulation of a strategy in order to address the emerging new challenges in the vineyard, the winery, the economy and the society.
AMPELOS 2017, the fourth Symposium in the AMPELOS series, is organised by Heliopopos Conferences and the Association Cooperatives of Theraic Products – SantoWines. It is placed under the auspices of the International Organization for Vine and Wine (OIV), the Hellenic Ministry of Rural Development and Food, the Municipality of Thira (Santorini), the Agricultural University of Athens, the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Athens, Geotechnical Chamber of Greece, the National Inter-professional Organization of Vine and Wine of Greece (EDOAO) and the Central Union of Vine and Wine Producing Co-operative Organisations of Greece (KEOSOE).

The Program
The program during the two, pure-symposium days is divided into five thematic sessions: a) climatic scenarios in Europe and in the Mediterranean basin until the end of the 21st century, b) impact of climate change on growth and quality of wine and table grapevine varieties, c) impact of climate change on the developmental physiology and ecophysiology of the grapevine, d) adaptation of grapevine varieties and rootstocks to climate change, e) new philosophy on winemaking techniques to address the consequences caused by the climate change.
A seminar on: The necessity of improved vine propagation material of Greek grapevine varieties in the new conditions – The role of clonal selection is scheduled (free access for all the participants).
The third day of the Symposium includes: visits of the historic vineyard of Santorini, visits of selected wineries and wine tastings of the famous, awarded wines of Santorini.
Call for Papers
45 proposals from 11 countries were submitted in the framework of the Symposium Call for Papers. Limited number of abstracts on the symposium topics can still be considered for presentation (only if submitted until the 31st of March). Email us at ampelos@heliotopos.net for more information. Awards
The AMPELOS 2017 Symposium will award the Best Oral and the Best Poster Presentations during the Symposium.
