ITB Career Center: Find the job of your dreams at the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show

ITB Berlin brings together job seekers and tourism personnel managers – Leading experts at the Young Professionals Day with tips on how to plan careers – Free individual career advice and application form checks

Berlin, 14 February 2019 – ITB Berlin is the place to launch a future career: from 6 to 10 March students, young professionals, qualified tourism professionals and newcomers visiting the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show can obtain qualified advice on tourism career and training opportunities at the ITB Career Center in Hall 11.1. Job seekers can make direct contact with the personnel managers of tourism companies and personally get to know prospective employers. Around 30 national and international universities, technical colleges, professional academies and other service providers will be presenting their courses and advanced training. Young professionals can also take advantage of the individual career advice on offer from the Federal Employment agency as well as free application form checks. Interested visitors can find out about the tourism job market and its opportunities from experts during the four-day programme of stage events as well as at the Young Professionals Day at the ITB Berlin Convention. They can also find out about a possible travel industry career from the ITB Job Wall which has over 200 job vacancies.

A large number of potential employers will be attending ITB Berlin. FTI Touristik, Leonardo Hotels and Sixt Jobworld will be represented with their own stand on all five days of the event, while the Federal Employment Agency, the exclusive partner of the ITB Career Center, is organising a recruiting area where different companies will be represented on each day. Companies taking part will include AccorHotels Germany, Adina Apartment Hotels, Ahorn Hotels & Resorts, AIDA Cruises, Derag Livinghotels, Enterprise Autovermietung, EURES European Employment Services, Fair Job Hotels, Flyline, Flixbus, Hamburg Cruise Net, Seachefs, travelzoo, Viking Cruises and ZAV Zentrale Auslands- und Fachvermittlung. “Every year, the ITB Career Center gives newcomers, specialists and executives an opportunity to have personal meetings with different employers from the tourism and hotel industry. Expert colleagues representing the career advisory service, the International Placement Service, the EURopean Employment Services (EURES), the Austrian Employment Market Service, as well as contacts representing the project ’MeerArbeit – Jobperspektive Kreuzfahrt‘ will also be on hand“, said André Nickel, who is responsible for hotel and restaurant job placements at the employment agency in Suhl, adding that, “anyone looking to start their careers or change their job in this industry should not miss this opportunity. In any case, visitors to the ITB Career Center will be well advised to bring job their application forms and qualifications along. This year, styling specialists and photographers will be making applicants appear in a positive light with our ’cheese and click‘ service. We are offering photos by professionals for job applications which visitors can take home free of charge. Finally, we will check their application forms and together with the applicants ensure that they are up to date.“

The stage is set for the Company Slam, Elevator Pitch and ITB Young Professionals Day

The stage at the ITB Career Center is where newcomers to the global travel industry can get valuable advice for planning their careers. In addition to tips on how to get started and business etiquette, potential employers will be holding creative presentations at the Company Slam. At the Elevator Pitch universities will give an introduction to their academic services with brief lectures.

On Wednesday, 6 March at the ITB Berlin Convention, the focus of the stage events will be on the ITB Young Professionals Day. In keynote speeches, interviews and at panel discussions, senior decision-makers from the tourism industry will offer an insight into the working world of the travel sector. Sören Hartmann, CEO of DER Touristik Group and board member of the REWE Group, will be drawing on long years of experience when he talks about opportunities in tourism and the key to success in an industry that is facing major change. Under the heading of ’Travel agencies as a point of entry’ Thomas Bösl, managing director of Raiffeisen-Tours RT-Reisen GmbH, will talk about how travel sales can be the cornerstone of successful careers and lucrative business models. Markus Heller, managing director of Dr. Fried und Partner, will talk about mega industry trends and highlight their impact on the travel industry. Afterwards, Ingo Lies, founder and managing director of the Berlin-based tour operator Chamäleon Reisen, will talk about motivation and emotive appeal in the business environment. The Young Professionals Day will be rounded off with the annual presentation of the DGT Science Award. Together with ITB Berlin, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Tourismuswissenschaft will be honouring outstanding papers in the categories Best Dissertation, Best Newcomer Paper, Best Paper on Sustainability in Tourism and Best Paper on Digitalisation in Tourism.
