Jet2holidays, the UK’s leading tour operator to destinations across the Mediterranean and Canary Islands, together with leisure airline, Jet2.com, reports that it has seen an immediate surge in bookings to Greece and Cyprus on the back of news that holidaymakers will be welcomed to both destinations this summer.
On the back of a huge increase in bookings following the Prime Minister’s announcement of an exit roadmap from lockdown, data from Jet2.com and Jet2holidays shows that bookings to Cyprus jumped by another 200% on the back of an announcement by the Deputy Minister of Tourism for Cyprus saying that UK nationals who have been vaccinated will be able to travel to Cyprus this summer.
The companies are reporting a spike in bookings to Greece this morning too, after the Greek Tourism Minister said that visitors are welcome if they have been vaccinated, have antibodies or have tested negative for coronavirus.
In a clear demonstration of the demand for a much-needed holiday, there has been a notable increase in bookings to Cyprus and Greece from July, which continues through the rest of the school holidays and Summer 21, as well as through Winter 21/22 and Summer 22.
Jet2holidays: 14 destinations in Greece this Summer
Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will fly to 14 destinations in Greece this Summer, with early signs following the announcement showing strong demand to popular Greek islands such as Corfu, Crete, Kefalonia, Rhodes and Zante as well as Santorini, Skiathos and Halkidiki. The companies recently added more flights and holidays to Zante, Crete (Heraklion), Rhodes and Kefalonia, extending the Summer 21 season and providing customers with more choice on the back of demand.
In addition, the companies operate flights and holidays to Larnaca and Paphos in Cyprus, with bookings data showing a significant spike in families booking holidays.
The UK government announced that travel will not return until 17th May at the earliest, so Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have suspended flights and holidays up to and including 16th May.
Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have received praise from customers, consumer organisations, media and independent travel agents for their industry-leading and prompt refunding of over £1bn to customers whose travel plans have been affected by programme changes during the pandemic, and they continue this customer-first approach.
On the back of the UK government’s announcement, Jet2holidays is responding to demand for the assurance that its ATOL protected package holidays provide, as well as its award-winning customer experience. As well as booking and travelling on award-winning flights and ATOL protected package holidays, customers get to experience and enjoy the company’s VIP customer service which has seen Jet2.com and Jet2holidays repeatedly win high-profile accolades such as Which? Recommended Provider and TripAdvisor’s Best Airline – UK and Top 10 Airlines of the World.
Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays said: “The UK is the most advanced country in Europe when it comes to successfully rolling out a vaccine, so we applaud the Greek and Cypriot governments for their forward-thinking decisions. This, on the back of the recent announcement by the UK government, gives customers great confidence that they can get away to enjoy the sunshine this summer and the numbers show that this confidence is increasing all the time.”
“We are very pleased that the government has shown a clear ambition to reopen international travel in the coming months, and we look forward to more detail in due course. Throughout the pandemic, we have done absolutely everything to look after our valued customers and we have always said that the sun will shine for them once again. We know what an incredibly difficult time it has been for everyone, and we very much look forward to taking everyone from our rainy islands to their dream holiday choice this summer and beyond.”
