Florence, November 7 2022 – They have excelled like few others in their scientific researches, disclosures and careers. Excellencies in the academic and congressional environments, whose charismatic voice has become over time a reference within their scientific community, a representation of culture and institutions. Last Friday, in the Salone dei Cinquecento of Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, 15 personalities were honored and officially named “Florence Ambassadors.” An event, now in its sixth edition, arranged by the City of Florence, in collaboration with Destination Florence Convention & Visitors Bureau, Firenze Fiera Congress and Exhibition Center and Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture. A celebration of the meeting industry, which has long been synonymous with significant economic, social and cultural impacts. A flagship event of the Florence Academic Leadership Program (FALP), the Florence Ambassador Award acknowledges the value of professionals able to enhance the prestige of the city, boosting its national and international attractiveness for the acquisition of events and congresses, consequently encouraging economic impact. The Florentine meeting industry_ An event that crowns the latest achievements for the city of Florence. Thanks to the synergy between institutions, Firenze Convention Bureau and Firenze Fiera, last summer Florence successfully bid six international congresses, consolidating its position as an international meeting destination. In July, the World Committee for Space Research (COSPAR) announced that the Tuscan capital would host the 46th edition of the Assembly after 62 years since last time: the only city in history to host the prestigious scientific congress for the third time, leading 3,000 delegates. The same month, the destination had already achieved three other major bids, which will lead nearly 2 thousand attendees in Florence over the next 3 years. Considering also the most recently successful bids, from 2023 to early 2028 about 400 thousand attendees are expected in town, generating a total revenue of 600 million euros. “We are pleased and gratified by this event that celebrates important members of our territory,” declares the President of the Region Tuscany, Eugenio Giani.
